The team have just conducted an interview with Sean Cornwell, VP International Markets for eharmony. The aim ov the interview was to try to get a more in-depth view of not only the inner workings of eharmony, but also to clear up a few questions that our users have asked- but there is no clear way of finding out without speaking to eharmony direct.
Sean Cornwell, VP International Markets:
Why should singles use eharmony?
Before launching in the UK we worked with the Oxford Internet Institute to research couples and relationships in this country and have used this knowledge in addition to our experience in the US to ensure that are matching model only delivers highly-compatible matches required for a satisfying, long-lasting relationship.
What was the thinking behind creating eharmony?
Unlike other dating sites, eHarmony was created out of a genuine desire to help people. eHarmony’s founder – Dr Neil Clark Warren – worked as a clinical psychologist counselling married couples for 35 years. Towards the end of his time as a counsellor Dr. Warren noted that the marriages that didn’t endure were those where couples had large differences and so he started to investigate how he could help couples make better choices at the start of their relationships. The result of this investigation was eHarmony’s Compatibility Matching System™ which matches couples based on deep compatibility.
Which site is eharmony’s main rival, and how are you better?
We don’t see any one site as being a ‘rival’. eHarmony is unique, not just to any one competitor, but to the entire dating category. While hundreds of dating sites offer near-identical services (trawling through thousands of profiles), eHarmony focuses on really getting to know someone through our Relationship Questionnaire, to ensure that we can send you only the highest quality matches.
In a nutshell- what type of users does eharmony attract?
eHarmony users people who are looking to find someone special for a long-term relationship.
Who designed the compatibility test?
eHarmony’s Relationship Questionnaire was originally created by Dr Warren and his research team. The questionnaire has been altered slightly over time and whenever we launch our service into a new country to ensure it is relevant. eHarmony’s patented Compatibility Matching System™ was also originally created by Dr Warren. We have six full-time Ph.Ds at the company whose work contributes to our understanding of relationship science and continually improves our ability to match couples successfully. Their combined knowledge and research enables us to understand how people develop their relationships. It ultimately gives us the ability to predict happier, healthier, long-term relationships, which is at the heart of everything we do.
What is the current size of the eharmony membership base?
We’ve got over 20 million users worldwide, and we’re growing fast. eHarmony is truly international with registrants from 191 countries.
Do you have any success stories of people that met on eharmony in the UK?
Yes, we do! We love to hear from our success couples and try to keep in touch with as many of them as possible. We’re always thrilled to hear about our couples getting married or having children!
