How do i cancel match.com Subscription

By on Cancelling Dating membership 14 comments

Over the last few weeks we have been asked by users “how do I cancel my match.com membership subscription?”

What is obvious about match.com is that they don’t want to lose your custom, which – I think is fair to say, is pretty much the same for any online dating site.

Although the dating site does offer advice on closing your account, this cancelation advice is not as easy to find as the many upgrade buttons of the website.

To cancel your subscription and stop any further direct debits being taken:
1)to go to subscirption and you will see membership status,
2)go to cancel,
3)also make sure you cancle the direct debit on your bank account.

Match.com. at least from the UK site now require you to telephone them and you get a grilling before you can cancel. I’ve been trying to find out how to cancel, and if you search the help section on their website you will find the info there.

They are an absolute rip off!

Spread the word about them. Stay away!

I agree with Jacob. A friend of mine (also with Match UK) was actually billed erroneously AFTER cancelling, they refused to give her a refund for the extra month claiming it was her fault. Seems like they’ve been spending all their money on ads at the expense of customer service and staff training. I mean, any company that forces you to call them to cancel your account really is taking the UNETHICAL route of pressuring you into staying with their service.

They don’t seem to give advanced notice of the credit card charge and I think that is illegal. Maybe need to contact a few states’ attorneys general. I had put in a cancellation two months ago but reconnected with a girl and used the match.com mail with full intention of not renewing the subscription. Last time they sent me a notice of automatic renewal this time not. I think there are more scams underfoot at match.com

      Hi Jim,

If you have paid using your Credit card , I am pretty sure that you should have transaction protection for this sort of thing- usually to claim this money back you only need to show that you have cancelled a service prior to the advance charge.

However the Match.com customer service team are usually quite good about this type of thing, give them a try first, explaining what you have described here.

I’ve just dropped in here after Googling how to kill my match subscription – I’ve cancelled before online once, no big deal.

Looking today to see about cancelling I was perplexed to find them peddling this 0800 number to phone. How do I even know if my subscription is cancelled when I phone this number (because if they cock it up there’s probably no chance of getting the cash back)? Why can I not see for certain the automatic renewal status (I absolutely did not sign up to being automatically renewed)? It appears to be showing they will take the payment! They’ve got to be breaking some rule here……

There seems only one course of action – phone them to cancel, check online to see if there is any obvious status change that confirms they definitely won’t take a payment. If not I’ll cancel my credit card with the supplier to ensure they can’t rob me of a payment.

Thoughts? I’m APPAULED. This is quite frankly a DESPERATE method of retaining what few subscribers they have

I’m going to spend the £77 joining a dancing class or something. At least then there’s a chance of talking to someone, without risk of being locked into a payment plan that you might never get out of.

    DEPLORABLE.

    Yours Dischuffed,
    A.

I cancelled my membership back in June of this year, and have just received a bank statement showing a 3 month subcription has been taken from my account! When trying to call the ‘customer helpline’, I was cut off three times when I explained what had happened.
This is fraudulent behaviour and quite frankly is criminal.
    Any advice?

Hi, we hope that you have now managed to cancel your match.com membership subscription.

As we have mentioned before, there are several stages to canceling and the most important is to call your bank/credit card company and cancel the actual direct debit mandate.

If you have forgotten to do this then you have a couple of options 1) call your credit card company and ask for it back 2) ask match.com for a refund using the link above.

Failing that , give us the details of your old account and some actual contact details for you and we will try to chase it up for you
